Meet Our Qualified Teachers
Gillian has a BSc and Diploma in Teaching. She has taught for over 30 years in Mathematics, Science and Chemistry. She has held positions of responsibility for many years, including within a large Mathematics department and more recently in the pastoral care team as a Dean for ten years, and has been involved with managing mentoring in a large secondary school.
The last few years, requiring online lessons, have demonstrated the need for a different approach to learning for students and teachers. Joining forces with brother-in-law Duane, Gillian is keen to support students in finding passion and success in their learning.
Gillian, along with her husband and adult son and daughter, enjoys family activities, including walks and road trips. She enjoys different genres of music, even kpop, and recently has been having fun with her new vegetable garden in her spare time.
Duane holds a Batchelor of Applied Theology and a Graduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching.
He, with his wife and son, has recently returned from the Philippines where they were working among the poor people. Having read a lot of material around the importance of quality education and its importance in breaking the poverty cycle they built a Government recognised elementary school. As well as communicating with the Philippines Department of Education, managing teachers and support staff, meeting parents, and working with kids from a variety of backgrounds, Duane established a computer lab, wrote the entire curriculum for kindergarten through to year 6, and became the computer class teacher. Furthermore, he also introduced robotics and circuits classes.
On his return to New Zealand, he successfully enrolled in the Graduate Diploma of Learning and Teaching at Massey University. The qualification he received allows him to teach all subjects from years 1 to 6 in New Zealand Primary Schools.
